30 km from the city of Edessa, and close to the ski center Vora, the traditionally preserved settlement of Agios Athanasios (or Tsegani) is located. The village was founded in the late 16th Century built at the foot of Mount Vora (or Kaimaktsalan) on the heights of Piperitsa at 1,200 m and was once a booming community with livestock farming until the 70s. Then it went descent dramatically, until in 1995, when the whole village "devastated" and was only two families left. The remaining residents packed their bags and went away, or moved to the lower altitudes Neo Agios Athanasius.

Today, Agios Athanasios is a beautiful tourist village with buildings with tiled roofs, very interesting examples of traditional Macedonian architecture that blends perfectly with the natural surroundings.

Here you will find everything: traditional hospitality, countless opportunities for skiing, trekking, horse riding, archery and much more to help you make your stay in this beautiful nature to an incomparable pleasure. The area is comparable with holiday homes near ski resorts in Germany or Austria. Everything is built of stone and very well maintained, with gorgeous flower beds and tree plantings.

The main attraction of the village is the Church of the Assumption, built in the late 1700s. In the village you will find everything you need from food, coffee, bars up to leasure entertainment. You only need to leave the village if you want to explore the area around.
